The Gift of Sleds for the Holidays

On Friday, December 8th, 2006 the Mad River Rocket Company of Warren donated 10 New Killer B Sleds and 5 New Stinger Sleds to Toys for Kids.  In speaking with Thom Hallock of WPTZ Channel 5 News, the company learned that although the program is called Toys for Kids, there was actually a real shortage of items for older children and teenagers.  The company was planning on just donating their children's sled model and then decided to donate more of their adult sled model that would be great for teenagers.  "We are psyched to give the kids something that will get them outside and active in this great state we live in," says Mad River Rocket Company President Whitney Phillips.  In recognizing the need for gifts for the older age groups, Mad River Rocket would like to encourage other Vermont based companies to do the same.  "Vermont is home to some of the coolest and best companies in the country; if we all donate, we can really bring some joy to the holidays for these kids," Phillips continues, "if you have product you can spare, please donate it to the kids and we'll get everyone outside and happy for the holidays."  To find more information about Toys for Kids or for the closest drop off location please visit the WPTZ website and click on Toys for Kids, the direct link is http://www.wptz.com/toysforkids.

we provide a thrilling high-performance ride. We have brought the sport of sledding from a backyard pastime to the forefront of alternative sports—our sleds rip it up in powder, through trees, and off the big kickers.

By providing kneepads and a quick release lap belt, the sledder is able to do everything from carving to inverted aerials.

Wonder What We Do All Summer?

Sled User Mail Bag

Dear Whitney,

I was just watching your youtube channel and I felt the need to send you an email. ... It’s unfortunate the today’s X-Games are about sponsors and style first rather than the snow. That’s what makes freesledding awesome. It’s a real underground thing. One sled company and a whole bunch of progressives scattered about. ... How many kids are there like me out there who want sledding to be the next extreme winter sport, and are serious about taking a sled into the woods to look for cliffs to drop and whatnot? What more do you think can be done to progress freesledding? ...

I’ve been scoping a few spots around campus and some look pretty promising. I have some of the recon photos posted here: www.thesledbaron.blogspot.com
